SharePoint image slideshow
The easiest way to build a slideshow in SharePoint is:
1) Create a picture library
2) Put a "This week in pictures" (out of the box) webpart on your page and point in the webpartproperties to the picture library created in step one
However the problem using this technique is that the thumbnails only change every day. If you want a slideshow you have to view (play) it in full screen modus. Waldek Mastykarz created a blogpost using jQuery to build a image slideshow: http://blog.mastykarz.nl/images-slideshow-sharepoint-2007-jquery/ The big adventage about using jQuery is that this is a client-side customization. In other words, you can do this using the content editor webpart and you don't need to deploy anything on the SharePoint Server.
If you want to use a webpart, cosider that you have to do a customization (deployment) on the server. On Google (keywords: sharepoint slideshow web part) you can find a lot of search results of free and open source slideshow webparts for sharepoint. For example using Flash and Silverlight.
If you want to share your favourite webpart, feel free to post a link as comment.
